Leather Sector convened to evaluate the latest sectoral developments

The meeting of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) Leather and Leather Products Industry Council was held via video conference with the participation of TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç and public and sector representatives under the chairmanship of Council President Muhittin Savranoğlu.​

TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç conveyed the greetings of TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu in his opening speech, stressing that they continue to communicate all the problems experienced by the sector to the public first hand during the pandemic and that as TOBB, they are always on the side of the sector to solve the problems.

Following his opening speech, Council President Muhittin SavranoÄŸlu informed the Council Members about the work he has been carrying out since the previous meeting of the Council. Commenting on the consultation meeting held with Trade Minister Mehmet MuÅŸ on 13/07/2021, SavranoÄŸlu stated that the problems experienced and solution proposals by the sector were conveyed to Trade Minister Mehmet MuÅŸ and the accompanying bureaucrats at the consultation meeting.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Halal Accreditation Agency, Zafer Soylu, who attended the meeting, informed the Council Members about the institution, the global halal trade, halal certification and accreditation. Council Vice President Ersin KaÅŸka noted that there may be problems with halal certification with some countries when exporting leather, and stressed that the solution of this issue is very important for the sector.

In addition, the protection of the term leather/fur, VAT differences in the leathercraft sector, the DFÄ°F cut in chrome leather exports and the importance of the EU Green Deal for the sector were thoroughly evaluated by Council Members.
