TOBB ETU academics and students met on the Island of Democracy and Freedoms

TOBB University of Economics and Technology Rector Prof. Dr. Yusuf Sarınay, Dean of the Faculty of Law Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kırca, Faculty of Law faculty members and students met at the “Management System in the 1924 Constitution and the Public Policy Symposium Monitored during this Period” held on the Island of Democracy and Freedoms.​

In the first session of the symposium organized by TOBB University of Economics and Technology Faculty of Law, Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kırca was the chair of the session, while Associate Professor Fahri Bakırcı made assessments about the historical process, the general framework and spirit of the Constitution that was instrumental in the construction of the 1924 Constitution.

Assoc. Dr. Şeref İba explained the preparation process and legalization of the 1924 Constitution, and Prof. Dr. Necmi Kaptanoğlu explained the system of government regulated in the 1924 Constitution.

In the second session, chaired by Prof. Dr. Olgun Değirmenci, Doç. Dr. Ozan Ergül discussed legislative and executive relations in the 1924 Constitution on the axis of international treaties and foreign policy; Prof. Dr. Tevfik Gülsoy discussed democratic life and electoral systems during the one-party period and multi-party period in which the 1924 Constitution was in force.

Dr. Abbas Kılıç examined the decisions of the Parliament and the legislative interpretation, which is a special parliamentary decision, on the basis of the theory of legislative procedures during the 1924 Constitution.

After the completion of the symposium, participation documents and plaques were presented to the panelists and participants by Prof. Dr. Yusuf Sarınay, Rector of TOBB University of Economics and Technology, and Prof. Dr. Çiğdem Kırca, Dean of the Faculty of Law.

TOBB University of Economics and Technology delegation also visited the Island of Democracy and Freedoms before the symposium.

In the program, the Hasan Polatkan museum, where Yassıada trials were held, was first visited. Afterwards, the delegation visited the Adnan Menderes Museum, which reflected the life of then Prime Minister Adnan Menderes and his experiences during the trials, and then visited the Museum of Democracy and Freedoms, which presents a journey through the last two hundred and fifty years of Turkish political history.
