TOBB Turkey E-commerce Council discussed current issues

TOBB Turkey e-Commerce Council, chaired by Council President Ozan Acar and attended by Council Members convened to discuss current issues.​

At the meeting, proposals were discussed to minimize the impact of full closure on commercial life without compromising the priority of fighting the pandemic. It was decided to forward the proposals to the Ministry of Commerce and the Interior Ministry.

In the second part of the meeting, Mehmet Kayış, head of the e-Commerce Department of the Ministry of Commerce, gave a comprehensive presentation on the 2020 data of the ETBİS system. He said preparations are underway to make the ETBİS data available to industry representatives, academics and researchers.

In the third part, Council Advisor Adnan Akgün briefed Council Members on current developments in digital market regulations in the European Union. In his presentation, Akgün outlined the framework proposed in the Digital Services Act and the Digital Markets Act. It was decided to establish a workgroup to examine the market projections of the ongoing global debates in our country.

In the fourth chapter, the work of the Council Human Resources Workgroup on the human resource needs of the sector was discussed. Council Member and Deputy General Manager of Kariyer.net, Barış Karadenizli, made a presentation in which he analyzed the quality of human resources needed at different stages of the e-commerce value chain with kariyer.net data. In his presentation, Karadenizli outlined recommendations on what needs to be done to address the lack of qualified human resources in the sector. It was decided that councilors would work together to create an educational curriculum for the development of human resources.
