TOBB/DEİK President and EuroChambers Vice-President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu stated that for people to prosper entrepreneurship and trade must be liberated. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan hosted a luncheon in the Rumeli Hall of the Lütfi Kırdar International Conference and Exhibition Palace in honor of the guests attending the “IV United Nations (UN) Least Developed Countries (LDCs) Conference”.

At the luncheon during which the “High-Level Investment and Partnership” meeting was also held, Hisarcıklıoğlu drew attention to the fact that the world trade volume in the 90’s was 3 trillion dollars whereas in 2010 it has reached 16 trillion; the number of LDCs has increased from the 21 of 1971 to today’s 48+1 with globalization.

Emphasizing the increasing gap between the poor and the rich while world trade volume increases, Hisarcıklıoğlu went on to say that the only way for these countries to prosper as well is to liberate global trade, and for trade to increase, peace and stability are required.

Hisarcıklıoğlu, “If we want our people to prosper we must encourage entrepreneurship. We are ready to share our experiences in this any time. As of last year, TOBB has conducted training on entrepreneurship in 50 countries.” Hisarcıklıoğlu went on to say that in regards to Millennium Development Goals, 19 projects have been successfully implemented.

-Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan

Speaking at the luncheon during which the “High-Level Investment and Partnership” meeting was also held, Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said that they have observed with great sadness that IV. UN LDCs Conference does not receive due attention, especially from developed and prosperous countries, “In a world with millions who have less than 1,25 dollars to spend daily, quite frankly, nobody is innocent.”

Prime Minister Erdoğan went on to say;
“We observe with great sadness that this conference does not receive its due attention, especially from developed and prosperous countries. Today, our problems know no boundaries, countries, peoples or geography. Problems like environmental problems, climate change, poverty, terror and migration do not threaten only specific countries, they threaten the whole globe. Unless individuals and societies living in hopelessness, their trust in justice betrayed and alone are brought back into the fold, unless they are given hope and a future, the world will always be a insecure and restless place. In a world with millions who have less than 1,25 dollars to spend daily, quite frankly, nobody is innocent.”
Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdoğan stated that as of 2006 no one in Turkey is living on less than 1 dollar per day, “The percentage of people who live on less than 4,3 dollars a day was 30% in 2002, we have decreased this number to 4%.”

Drawing attention to their work in which general prosperity has increased and the irregularities in income have been amended, Erdoğan stated that they have not forgotten about investments. In Turkey, 13.600 kilometers of highways, 163.000 classrooms, 89 new universities, 490.000 modern accommodations –mostly for low-income residents- and 4.4 million square kilometers of closed health facilities have been constructed.

Prime Minister Erdoğan stated that these enormous investments strengthen the bond of trust between citizen and government, increase national solidarity and most importantly dries up the swamp of poverty and victimization that terror feeds upon.
