The decision to pair up 44 chambers was made during the The Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and The General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture for Arab Countries (GUCCIAAC) Collaboration Meeting held in Istanbul.

Under the leadership of TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu and GUCCIAAC President Adnan Kassar, many business world representatives attended the meeting.

It was decided that a Turk-Arab Collaboration Forum, attended by the chamber presidents and business council presidents, would be established, further talks ensued discussing the propagation of collaboration possibilities between parties.

An agreement to further address the needs of transportation-logistics, construction, health care, tourism, banking and finance sectors was reached.

“We share the same opportunities and goals”

In his speech during the meeting TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu drew attention to the centuries-long bond of shared history, geography and culture between Turkey and Arabian countries that held that together and went on to say, “Just as we are neighbors and share the same burdens and difficulties, so do we also share the same opportunities and goals.”

Stating that Turkish businessmen as a whole wish to further and diversify economic relations with their Arab colleagues, Hisarcıklıoğlu went on to say, “We all want to make Eastern Mediterranean, Red Sea and the Persian Gulf into a region of stability. Our aim is to enrich the deep bonds of friendship between the Turkish and Arab worlds with a sustainable, strong and stable economic collaboration. This is only viable through cooperation. For united we stand, and divided we fall.”
