Road Transporters’ call for the removal of discriminatory practices

IRU (International Road Transport Union’s 6th biyearly Eurasia Road Transportation Conference was held on the 16th and 17th of June, 2011 in Tiflis. Attending the conference from Turkey were representatives from the Transportation Ministry and TOBB, as well as TEPAV, GTİ and UND.

The opening of the “Road Transportation Connecting All Sectors and Modes of Transportation between Asia and Europe” themed conference was conducted by the Georgian Economy Minister Vera Kobalia. In tandem with the IRU conference, a Ministerial Conference on the subject of “The Facilitation of Trade and Road Transportation in the Silk Road” and The Role of International Institutions and Finance Institutions in the Revitalization of the Silk Road Coordination Meeting were also held, hosting the Transportation Ministries of participating states and relevant other administrations’ high level representatives. The presentation by TEPAV representatives drew much attention at the Ministerial Conference and the Coordination Meeting.In the conference’s conclusion charter, governments were called upon to; bring the UN agreements facilitating transportation and trade into effect, build secure TIR parking areas, removal of discriminatory practices in road transportation, ensure transit freedom, support all intermodal solutions – starting with ro-ro lanes, simplifying visa procedures for professional drivers, support for vocational training by the state.IRU’s 7th Eurasia Road Transportation Conference will be held in Amman/Jordan in 2013.
