Kocaeli Chamber of Industry President Ayhan Zeytinoğlu said that Turkey isn’t rich in natural resources but that its greatest asset is at half its population is under the age of 27 but that the highest unemployment rate is in the young population with 22%.

Zeytinoğlu, making a speech at the panel titled “Future’s Workforce” on the last day of the 7th World Chambers Congress held in Mexico, provided information on the subjects of Turkey’s economy, employment and unemployment.With its population reaching 75 million, Turkey was the 6th fastest growing country in the world last year, by 8.9%, Zeytinoğlu stated, last year the private sector created 1.1 million new job opportunities but there are still 3 million unemployed and the unemployment ration is 12%.Zeytinoğlu stated that unemployment is a big issue for Turkey and the world and that they have conducted surveys in 19 industrialized cities with 5 thousand companies, determined needs and in regards to these needs equip schools with new tools.- “Unemployment may be more of an issue with women that it appears to be”In Turkey, where youth’s unemployment is a serious problem, the highest rate of unemployment is on the young population stated Zeytinoğlu, the rate of unemployment is 22% between ages 15-24, between ages 25-54 it is 10%.The urban rate of unemployment outside of agriculture for men is 13% while it is 20% for women. The employment rate in agriculture is 19% the male workforce and 46% of the female workforce.
