Sector representatives evaluated TÜRSAB committee’s visit to Egypt and Tunisia. Turkey Travel Agencies and Guides Council President Başaran Ulusoy stated that Tunisia and Egypt were visited in order to support them in the tourism sector. Council members agreed that Turkey has come a long way in tourism in the last years with the main reason for it being the development of civilian aviation, the opening of new airports and highways allowing people to travel in peace.During the meeting it was stated that there are a total of 347 airplanes, 146 belonging to Turkish Airlines and 201 belonging to private airlines, in Turkey; over a million beds in hotels, 9,500 guides, 17 yacht marinas and 10,000 careenage. Stating that the liveliness in Syria may result in a drop of visitors to the GAP Region, board members went on to say that the Formula 1 area needs to be reclaimed for tourism and that the importance of cruiser docks for tourism be recognized.
