TOBB ETU won two first prizes in the 8th International METU Robotic Days. In the event where over 400 robots participated and robot contests were held in various categories, TOBB ETU won the first prize in the free category with the ‘ETUIHA’ unmanned aerial vehicle project, and the first prize in the multiple mini sumo’s category with Multiple Mini Sumo Robots Team called ‘Three Musketeers’.

In the free category where the robots were evaluated in terms of creativity, autonomy, design, resistance and feasibility, ETUIHA project was chosen as the best, as a result of captious evaluations made by the jury members who are experienced in their field and were selected from among the members of engineering faculty and Research and Development sector. This robot, which was developed as an Unmanned Aerial Vehicle that has the ability of autonomous flight, can fly to the particular coordinates that were pre-loaded to its memory and can automatically go back to the departure point when the mission ends. ETUIHA, which weighs approximately 750 grams and can stay in the air for 30 minutes, has a 1-kilometer communication range and can send the data gathered from the sensors on it to the ground station in real time. It can also record videos up to 2 hours with the integrated video recorder. In the future, ETUIHA will be able to be used in detecting and tracing the forest fires, controlling the wild animals and supporting search-rescue operations.TOBB ETU’s Multiple Mini Sumo Team, which consists of 3 robots that recognize each other and do not attack each other, defeated its rivals and came in first in the Multiple Mini Sumo Category. TOBB ETU participated in the 8th International METU Robotic Days with Computer Engineering graduate student Veli Burak Çelen, Mechanical Engineering bachelor’s degree senior class student Burak Yıldız, Electrical and Electronic Engineering bachelor’s degree senior class student Coşar Dindar and Electronic Engineering bachelor’s degree senior class student Umur Özhan Şengül, with the leadership of Computer Engineering Doctorate Student Ömer Çayırpunar.
