A foundation ceremony took place in Lefkoşa (Nicosia) for the Hala Sultan Divinity College. Attending the ceremony were the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, Deputy Prime Minister Atalay, TRNC Prime Minister Özkan Yorgancıoğlu, Director of Religious Affairs Prof. Dr. Mehmet Görmez, TRNC Deputy Prime Minister Serdar Denktaş and Turkey’s Ambassador to Lefkoşa, Halil İbrahim Akça as well as many businessmen and MPs.​

Speaking at the opening, TOBB President Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu expressed his happiness in contributing to education in TRNC and said, “We are overjoyed to be contributing to the future of our Cypriot brothers. We are all for economic development. We will always continue to support the development of the economy in TRNC.”

 

Hisarcıklıoğlu expressed his conviction that if Turks in Turkey and Cyprus act in unison and solidarity greater works can be achieved and drew attention to the fact that they, as a Union, are working closely with business organizations in Cyprus.

Deputy Prime Minister Beşir Atalay reported that the mosque project would be financed by the Turkey Divinity Foundation and would be run solely through the efforts of foundations and associations. Speaking at length about the history of Cypriot Turks and the Turks of Turkey and the solidarity between the two, Atalay stated that they will always support Cyprus in order to remove the unjust treatment directed at it by the international community, “Turkey will never allow Cypriot Turks to become a minority of the Greek Cypriot state.”

 

- TRNC Prime Minister Yorgancıoğlu

 

TRNC Prime Minister Yorgancıoğlu pointed out the importance of the complex for the country and thanked everyone who contributed to its construction.

 

Yorgancıoğlu, stated that those who will be educated here will have to work hard in order to bring the country to an equal footing with the world after they graduate.
