Turkish and Iranian Delegations meet in Gürbulak

24.08.2026 / Gürbulak

Hosted by the Ministry of Trade and attended by high-level officials from the Ministry of Trade and the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructure, a meeting was held with the Iranian side to discuss transit and waiting issues at the Gürbulak-Bazergan Border Crossing.

At the meeting held at the Gürbulak Customs Gate, it was agreed to identify the causes of delays in border crossings on-site, determine shortcomings on both sides, and develop proposed solutions; a commission was established for this purpose.

Key topics discussed to expedite crossings included the gradual increase in truck traffic at the Gürbulak border, the expanded use of TIR Carnets at the Gürbulak-Bazergan crossing, and the implementation of the electronic TIR (e-TIR) system between the two countries.

It was decided to establish a commission to identify the issues on-site and for both countries to implement improvements at border crossings based on the commission’s report.

During the meeting, Can Özkaymak, Director of the Transportation and Logistics Systems Department at TOBB, raised the issue faced by companies using TIR Carnets, specifically, the failure to return TIR Carnets in Iran, and requested support from the Iranian side.
