Universities Should Teach “How to Learn"

M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of TOBB expressed during the opening ceremony of Konya Chamber of Commerce (KTO) Karatay University that universities must teach ‘how to learn’ to students instead of only lecturing and the greatest fund of 21st century  would be qualified man power.

 

 
He pointed out that this year would be an ‘investment year’ and said ‘If we desire to be successful, we have to grow our young people. This means not only an advantage but also a threat to our country.
 
Besides M.Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of TOBB; President of The Turkish National Assembly Mehmet  Ali Şahin, Minister of State Zafer Çağlayan, Minister of National Education Nimet Çubukçu, Minister of Public Works and Settlement Mustafa Demir and President of the Council of Higher Education Prof.Dr. Yusuf Ziya Özcan also attended to the opening ceremony of KTO Karatay University.
 

 

Hisarcıklıoğlu mentioned:
“We are very proud of attending to this opening ceremony. After previously established three universities by Istanbul Chamber of Commerce, Izmir Chamber of Commerce and the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey, today, we are opening our fourth university. It is a great honour for me to be the Founder Chairman of Board of Directors at KTO Karatay University.”
 
M.Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu emphasized that the most important investment of countries would be the qualified labor force in the 21. century and added:

 

 

 

“This century will be an investment century. Therefore, if we want to be successful, we must educate our young people. Today half of the Turkish population is under the age of 28. If we educate this young people well, this century will be our century.”
Hisarcıklıoğlu underlined that he always feels happiness when he goes to a university and spends time with students and continued:
“When I go to a university, I see dynamism. Best universities mean best future. Today universities should teach learning instead of teaching solely lessons. In this century which technology is rapidly developing, things which were believed as a fact can evanish. So universities should not only inform their students but also teach knowledge.”
 
Hisarcıklıoğlu underlined that universities must be the area of freedom and then he congratulated the President of the Council of Higher Education Prof.Dr. Yusuf Ziya Özcan because of his efforts for settling the freedom at the universities.

 

 

 

Hisarcıklıoğlu indicated that they had an aim and highlighted:
“Our aim is to be in the first 10 economy in the world. If we want to be there, we should support invention and set up a developed infrastructure. I believe that KTO Karatay University will be a step for this aim and it will construct the future through the leadership and vision.”

 

 

 

He concluded his remarks with explaining that in today’s world, the most beneficial work is to provide employment to people.
 
President of The Turkish National Assembly Mehmet  Ali Şahin
Mehmet Ali Şahin emphasized in his speech that his wish is a university that gives full scholarship to all of its students. In addition to this he said Konya will become a ‘university town’.

 

 

 

Minister of National Education Nimet Çubukçu

 

Nimet Çubukçu celebrated the Konya Chamber of Commerce because of its contribution and expressed that today we have totally 156 universities. She also added that they will continue to work for development of the education system in Turkey.
