July 15th message from Hisarcıklıoğlu

M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, President of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), issued a message on the occasion of July 15th Democracy and National Unity Day, stating that the only legitimate form of government is an elected administration that derives its authority from the people. He emphasized that TOBB and the entire chamber and exchange community have always stood by democracy, the people, and the state.
TOBB President Hisarcıklıoğlu included the following statements in his message:
“On the night of July 15th, 2016, a treacherous coup attempt was launched against our democracy, our independence, and the will of our nation.
On that dark night, the Turkish nation- women, men, young, and old alike - took to the streets and defended its republic and its future at the cost of their own lives. As the umbrella organization of the Turkish business community, we stood by our state and nation without hesitation from the very first moment of that night. We made our clear stance in favor of democracy known by declaring, ‘Sovereignty belongs to the nation, unconditionally.’
Today, our greatest duty remains to honor the legacy of our martyrs and further strengthen our democracy. We will continue to work hard and be productive to elevate our country above the level of contemporary civilizations.
On this meaningful day, we remember our martyrs with compassion and our veterans with gratitude and appreciation.”
