TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu, who participated in Mersin Commodity Exchange 90th Anniversary and Award Ceremony, stated that it is unity and solidarity that makes Mersin a brand city, “I find morale here when I see the community. Then I go to 80 provinces and tell them about you. You are my example to them.”

Stating that Development Minister Lütfi Elvan has always stood by them. Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We were together with the minister at YÖREX 5 days ago in Antalya. He has always been at the side of the Turkish private sector and agriculture-animal husbandry sector. We have been working closely with the minister since his time as undersecretary. Turkey's development policies carry his signature.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that Mersin is the third largest province in vegetable production, “53% of Mersin is forest, 24% is agricultural land. You have fertile soil. It is first in myrtle, banana, lemon and strawberry production in Turkey. The second in cutting rose and pepper production, the third in mandarin and cucumber production, the fourth in grape and orange production. Mersin markets its produce both domestically and abroad. No doubt Mersin Commodity Exchange has made great contributions to the development of agriculture in Mersin.

Pointing out that the Mersin Commodity Exchange is an accredited commodity exchange, the TOBB President noted, “It offers 5-star service. It has been providing service with sales hall and laboratory for 90 years. It is a leading commodity market especially in citrus and pulses. “

“Chairman Abdullah is also President of the TOBB Commodity Exchange Council, which is represents 113 Commodity Exchanges in Turkey,” Hisarcıklıoğlu said and went on, “At the same time, he is a member of the board of the ICC Turkey National Commission. We are benefiting from his knowledge, his experience. Grace of Allah be upon him.

Now, we are bringing to life the 50-year dream of Turkish agri-sector, the Product Specialized Commodity Exchange. A Council of Ministers decision was issued for the establishment of the Product Specialized Commodity Exchanges. Now producers, consumers, and industrialists will be more secure. It will not be affected by price shifts. Product bonds will now become an investment vehicle. Our producers will have easier access to financing with the product bonds. The product will show you as a guarantee. Most importantly, the prices of agricultural and livestock products will now be determined domestically.

- Development Minister Lütfi Elvan

Development Minister Lütfi Elvan said, “A deep-rooted culture of trade is generally prominent among competition. Even if primitive, the effects of industry are evident. Mersin has incredible potential in industry, tourism, health, trade; you can list all sectors because all of them have incredible potential for Mersin.”
