In his press release regarding the May 19th, the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu pointed out that May 19th on which the torch for the War of Independence was lit is a very significant day and said, "Our youth, with the knowledge of those who were martyrs for this cause and this great struggle, will carry our nation to the forefront of civilization."

Hisarcıklıoğlu said in his press release:

"May 19th, 1919, is a historic day of great import on which our national fight for independence began. It is the beginning of a heroic epic of monumental proportions which stretches all the way in to present day.

Becoming victorious in the war for national pride and honor, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, his comrades in arms and the whole nation have left the youth a charge of the utmost sanctity. We have no doubt that our youth will preserve and protect this charge forever, ensuring that our nation will forever remain among the most civilized, developed and prosperous nations.

The Great Atatürk trusted in the youth. We, the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchange of Turkey, likewise trust intimately in the youth to be the gem and light of our nation in our bid to strengthen the economic power of our country. We believe that our future in the economic field is dependent on increasing the participation of youth and women entrepreneurs in the economy.

This is the goal with which we founded the Youth Entrepreneurs Council and the Women Entrepreneurs Council. We established TOBB ETU in order to strengthen and widen our youth's education. We know that tomorrow will be shaped in the hands of youth.

On the anniversary of this most significant day, I, on behalf of the Turkish private sector, celebrate May 19th, the Commemoration of Atatürk, Youth and Sports Day and commemorate our veterans and martyrs with deep respect and gratitude."
