Answering journalists’ questions at the Tekirdağ Commodity Exchange, TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu said in regards to the attack on Turkey’s Mosul Consulate, “I hope that our brothers return to their homes safely. One among them is also the father of one of TOBB’s own personnel.”

Touching on the economic developments in Tekirdağ, Hisarcıklıoğlu said in answer to a question on whether the situation in Mosul will effect the economy that the keywords are peace, trade and prosperity.

Emphasizing that there can be no trade or prosperity without peace, Hisarcıklıoğlu said, “We want both inner and national peace. We also want peace for all of our neighbors because they, too, are our brothers.”

Hisarcıklıoğlu state that peace in the region would have significant results. Stating that Iraq is Turkey’s largest trade partner, Hisarcıklıoğlu said:

“I hope that peace returns as soon as possible. Turkish diplomats were guests in Iraq. We share a culture and tradition; the treatment of guests is dictated by both the Quran and the Hadiths. I hope that the will keep these in mind and that our brothers are returned safe and sound to their homeland. One of them is, in fact, the father of one of TOBB’s own employees. He is a financial consultant there. We request that they are returned safely forthwith.”
