Forest Products Council reviews industry agenda

A meeting of the Forest Products Council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Türkiye (TOBB), was held at the TOBB İstanbul Service Building to discuss current issues facing the sector. The meeting was attended by TOBB Board Member Saim Özakalın and Council members.​​
During the meeting, current developments under the European Union Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) were discussed, and assessments were made regarding the regulation’s impact on the forest products sector and the sector’s compliance process.
The meeting also reviewed a donation campaign for pump-equipped fire trucks to combat forest fires and discussed potential initiatives for the forestry sector in the context of COP31, scheduled to take place in Antalya in November 2027.
Later in the meeting, while assessing beech log exports, potential issues regarding the import of U.S.-origin walnut and oak logs and lumber under the New Agricultural Quarantine Regulation were discussed, along with proposed solutions to these issues.
In addition, assessments were made regarding the process of preparing the National-Level Sustainable Forest Management (SOY) criteria and indicators set in Forest Management Directorates and implementing them across all regional directorates.
The meeting concluded with an assessment of the work the Council will carry out in the coming period.
