The discussions addressed the tariffs recently imposed by the U.S., regulations on forced labor, the issue of overcapacity originating from China, transatlantic trade relations, and the future of global supply chains. The Eurochambres delegation emphasized the importance of predictability and stability in trade relations with the U.S. and called for a review of the high tariffs imposed on steel and aluminum in particular.

U.S. officials, meanwhile, stated that the goals of economic security, combating deindustrialization, and reducing dependence on China underpin current trade policies. During the talks, assessments emerged suggesting that the U.S. is moving away from the traditional multilateral trade system and adopting an approach based on cooperation with countries that share common values.

One of the notable topics of the visit was the “Pax Silica” initiative, supported by the U.S. Department of State. It was noted that the initiative, which aims to establish reliable supply chains in artificial intelligence, semiconductors, critical minerals, and energy infrastructure, will be a key element of the future economic security architecture.

During the discussions, it was also assessed that while trade relations between the EU and the U.S. retain their strategic importance, these relations will be shaped in the coming period primarily around economic security, technology, critical raw materials, and supply chain resilience.
