01.12.2020 / Ankara

The results of “Turkey's Gender Equality Scorecard in 81 Provinces” prepared in cooperation with the Economic Policy Research Foundation of Turkey (TEPAV) under the leadership of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) and the Turkish Bank for Development of Turkey (TSKB) were announced at the online meeting.

At the meeting where the Gender Equality Scorecard of 81 provinces was evaluated, up-to-date data on the developments in women's employment in 81 provinces during Covid-19 were also shared.

Past report card studies created by TEPAV with the adapting of the UNDP GII index to the provinces, under the leadership of TOBB and TSKB, were re-discussed in terms of both indicator set and methodology in TEPAV cooperation and calculated for 81 provinces of Turkey. In this report card study, which developed Turkey's own local index set for the first time, access to data was increased as a result of collaborations with stakeholder institutions and the number of indicators that make up the index was increased from 4 to 11. With the methodology followed in the World Economic Forum's Global Gender Equality Report and the indicator set enriched at the provincial level, Turkey's unique gender equality scorecard was developed in the dimensions of "representation in politics and economy", "participation in production activities" and "participation in education".

According to the report, which evaluated Turkey's gender equality in 81 provinces in the dimensions of "participation in education", "participation in production activities" and "representation in politics and economy", the area where Turkey should develop the most in gender equality was "participation in production activities".

According to the report, Turkey's most egalitarian province was Muğla, followed by İzmir, Yalova, İstanbul, Kırklareli, Çanakkale, Sinop, Tunceli, Aydın and Balikesir provinces, respectively.
