5G Virtual Conference held in cooperation with U.S. Embassy and TOBB Sector Councils

Representatives of the US Embassy and the Telecommunication, Software and e-Commerce Councils within TOBB convened with a virtual conference on GSM infrastructure and 5G.​

During the meeting where Turkish Telecommunications Council President Rıdvan Uğurlu gave his opening speech, the advantages of 5G to the sector were emphasized.

 

During the meeting, moderated by TOBB Telecommunications Council Advisor Halil Yalçın, Jeffrey M. Hovenier, who served as Undersecretary of State at the US Embassy in Ankara, made assessments of the mobile phone infrastructure.

 

Hovenier proposed to Turkey to cooperate with Western companies in GSM and especially 5G investments.

 

A comprehensive presentation on 5G was made by Ashutosh Dutta, Founding Co-Chair of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers 5G Initiative.

 

- Domestic base station

 

Metin Balcı, General Manager of ULAK Communications INC, gave information about the “domestic base station” developed by Turkey. Currently, 1,300 base stations in 71 provinces serve 3 operators and more than 1.5 million subscribers receive communication services with domestic technologies. It was noted that Turkey's companies working in both 4.5G and 5G, as well as SMEs, are actively involved in this process and that great importance is given to the development of domestic technology in this field.

 

About 100 participants, consisting of representatives of the Embassy of the United States, Finland, Czechia and relevant industry officials, attended the virtual conference.
