Turkish Leather and Leather Products Industry Council convened

The meeting of the Turkish Leather and Leather Products Industry Council of the Union of Chambers and Commodity Exchanges of Turkey (TOBB) was held via video conference with the intense participation of public and sector representatives under the chairmanship of TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç and Council President Muhittin Şavranoğlu.​

TOBB Board Member Zeki Kıvanç conveyed the greetings of TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu in his opening speech, emphasizing that they are aware of the difficulties experienced by the sectors throughout the pandemic and that they always support the sector as TOBB.

 

In his opening speech, Council President Muhittin Şavranoğlu thanked TOBB President M. Rifat Hisarcıklıoğlu and stated that they always felt their support as a sector and that this power gave a sigh of comfort to the sector, especially during the pandemic.

 

Sanem Yıldız, head of the Import Inspections Department of the General Directorate of Product Safety and Supervision of the Ministry of Commerce, informed the council members with a detailed presentation on “Communiqué on the Inspection of Some Textiles, Garments and Leather Products.” In his presentation, Yıldız made detailed assessments of the operation, purpose and general process of the scope of “Risk Based Control System in Foreign Trade (TAREKS)” and “Communiqué on the Supervision of Some Textiles, Garments and Leather Products (Product Safety and Inspection: 2021/18),” and exchanged views with the council members on the entire process.

 

The detailed study, which was carried out to prevent the terms “Leather and Fur” from being confused with faux, vegan, etc. materials, was shared with the council members by the Parliamentary Advisor Onur Görgün. The council members evaluated the prepared work and expressed their opinions on the matter.

 

Efforts to change the capacity criteria for tanning, winery and footwear sectors were evaluated by councilors. Council Vice President Ersin Kaşka drew attention to the importance of capacity criteria and emphasized the necessity for the leather sector to adapt capacity criteria to today's conditions, which will cover the entire sector.

 

Other agenda items of the meeting were sectoral production and marketing conditions in pandemic conditions, SCT application in finished fur products were also discussed by the council members and evaluations were made.
